The World Cup has landed on Treasure Island, where Gold Bar Whiskey Distillery & Tasting Room is screening live matches on a massive outdoor screen overlooking the San Francisco Bay across two weekends this June. 

The watch parties take place on June 19-20 and June 25-27 as part of Gold Bar’s six-week Celebration of Nations series, with live DJ sets, giveaways, and a full bar throughout. Tickets start at $11 and include one drink. 

The San Francisco Chronicle named Treasure Island’s watch parties among the best places in the Bay Area to catch the tournament, and the SF Examiner pointed to the same waterfront setting as a reason to make the trip out.

Two of the Bay Area’s signature regattas put Treasure Island right in the middle of the action this spring and summer. From classic wooden sailboats over Memorial Day weekend to a major midsummer race in July, the Island offers a front-row view of sailing on San Francisco Bay.

Master Mariners Memorial Day Regatta: Saturday, May 23

The Master Mariners Memorial Day Regatta sails across San Francisco Bay on Saturday, May 23, with the first warning signal at 12:05 PM and the first start at 12:15 PM. Organized by the Master Mariners Benevolent Association and Sausalito Yacht Club, the race brings together over a dozen classes of classic wooden sailing vessels for a full day of pursuit racing on the Bay.

Starting in front of the St. Francis Yacht Club, the boats cross the Bay on courses set by class before converging at the finish line near Clipper Cove, just behind Treasure Island. Slower boats start first and faster ones chase them down, so the finishes often come in tight. With wooden hulls and traditional rigging, the fleet makes for one of the season’s most memorable sights on the Bay.

Westpoint Regatta: Saturday, July 18

Later in the summer, the Westpoint Regatta returns on Saturday, July 18, with the first warning signal at 11:25 AM. This time, Treasure Island marks the starting line. The fleet launches off the northeast end of the Island, sails around Alcatraz, and rides the flood tide downwind all the way to Redwood City.

Co-hosted by the Treasure Island Yacht Club, Sequoia Yacht Club, and Westpoint Harbor, the race is part of the Yacht Racing Association’s Weekend Regatta Series and has been a fixture on the Bay calendar since its founding in 2009. The pre-race Skipper’s Meeting and party take place at Treasure Island Yacht Club the evening before, giving racers and supporters a chance to gather on the Island ahead of the start.

Spring programming is in full swing on Treasure Island. A high-energy sunset fitness class HIITs Cityside Park on April 30, Off the Grid returns every Saturday through May 16, and Yoga by the Water continues every Sunday into the summer. Each one happens at Cityside Park, the 6-acre waterfront destination named one of the San Francisco Chronicle’s must-do experiences for 2026.

Fitness by the Water with Lux Fit

Lux Fit brings its signature coach-led HIIT class to Cityside Park for a sunset workout on the waterfront. The hour-long class combines strength, cardio, and bodyweight circuits, with intentional transitions that move the group through the park and along the shoreline. Expect a real sweat, a guided run past some of the best skyline views in San Francisco, and a chance to train somewhere new. 

Afterward, the class winds down with smoothies and time to hang with the Lux Fit crew as the sun sets over the Bay. All experience levels are welcome.

Off the Grid Spring Edition

After a fall debut that drew thousands to Cityside Park, Off the Grid returns this spring with a six-week Saturday series running through May 16. Each week brings 15+ rotating food creators to Cityside Park’s six waterfront acres, with kites over the Bay and the San Francisco skyline directly across the water. 

Themed editions rotate from one Saturday to the next, with new chefs and pop-ups keeping the lineup fresh. Admission is free, and ferry rides are complimentary with RSVP.

Most of these events run for an hour or an afternoon, but there’s no reason to head straight back to the ferry. Cityside Park is built for lingering, with open lawns, coastal gardens, and blue wooden lawn chairs lined up along the water. Walk the waterfront paths for views of all three bridges, grab brunch in Aracely Café’s garden patio, or head to Mersea Restaurant & Bar, set inside repurposed shipping containers with live music on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons. 

If you’re staying into the evening, Gold Bar Whiskey Distillery & Tasting Room is just down the road. The restored 1930s Art Deco terminal serves cocktails, hosts tasting room hours, and is up for two Best of the Bay Area titles from SFGATE.

The Bay Lights have returned to the western span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge with a Grand Lighting on March 20, bringing back one of the most beloved public artworks in the world, rebuilt from the ground up and brighter than ever. 

Treasure Island offers one of the best views in the city. Few places in the Bay Area offer a front-row experience of the installation quite like this one.

A Work of Art Worthy of the Bay

Created by light artist Leo Villareal and produced by the San Francisco nonprofit Illuminate, The Bay Lights first debuted on March 5, 2013, and immediately became part of the city’s identity. Spanning 1.8 miles along the northern cable plane of the Bay Bridge’s western span, the installation wove 25,000 individually programmable LEDs into a living, ever-shifting composition that rose 500 feet above the water. 

The Bay Lights went dark in 2023 after a decade on the bridge, when the original installation needed upgrading. What’s returned is a reinvention and proof that wonder has a place in the everyday. The 2026 installation features 48,000 custom-engineered LEDs, purpose-built for the bridge’s demanding marine environment by Musco Lighting, a global leader in large-scale illumination. It’s designed to endure for years to come. 

The Grand Lighting

The Bay Lights returned with a celebratory Grand Lighting on Friday, March 20, a date that also marked the 92nd birthday of Willie L. Brown, the former San Francisco mayor and longtime champion of the project. 

The return was made possible through $11 million in private support, funded entirely by a coalition of philanthropic leaders and more than 1,300 individual donors who believe, as Illuminate founder Ben Davis put it, that awe can be part of a city’s identity. 

The Best View Is on the Island

There are plenty of places around the Bay to take in The Bay Lights, but Treasure Island sits right in the middle of it all, between San Francisco and Oakland, surrounded by water, with an unobstructed view of the western span that’s hard to match anywhere else.

On clear evenings, the bridge is already a presence from the Island, close enough to feel part of your horizon, and far enough to take the whole thing in. Now that the lights have returned, that view feels even more extraordinary.

The return of The Bay Lights is reason enough to spend an evening on the Island. Here’s how to do it right. 

Start with dinner at Mersea Restaurant & Bar, right on the waterfront. The space is built from repurposed shipping containers, with tables made from old Treasure Island bowling alley lanes, and the menu from Executive Chef Parke Ulrich (Waterbar, EPIC Steak) is the kind of comfort-casual cooking that earns a #1 TripAdvisor ranking. Mersea is first-come, first-served with open seating and counter service, so arrive early and settle in.

San Francisco’s sweetest event made its way to the Bay last weekend as CAKE PICNIC transformed the newly opened Cityside Park on Treasure Island into a sprawling celebration of cake, creativity, and community.

What began as a small gathering among friends has evolved into a worldwide sensation. Founded by Elisa Sunga, CAKE PICNIC began in 2024 at Potrero del Sol Park with just a few dozen cakes and has since expanded to cities across the United States, including Los Angeles and London. Its October return to San Francisco sold out in less than a minute and marked the largest Bay Area edition yet, bringing together thousands of guests and more than a thousand cakes. 

The event followed its beloved rule—no cake, no entry—and the result was a massive 580 foot tasting table that showcased the region’s imagination. There were heirloom family recipes, flavor experiments like ube swirls and mango yuzu chantilly, and intricate designs that could have belonged in a pastry gallery. 

This year’s celebration also featured two San Francisco icons: Ghirardelli and Guinness. Ghiradelli highlighted its  170-year chocolate-making legacy, while Guinness offered slices of its crowd-favorite Guinness Chocolate Cake paired with small pours of stout. Together they carried the event’s “golden” theme—a nod to the Bay’s creative energy and to simple pleasures shared in good company. 

The afternoon wrapped with tables cleared and frosting-streaked plates packed away as guests lingered on the grass. Cityside Park proved an ideal setting for it all—wide lawns, Bay Bridge views, and a skyline that sparkled just beyond the frosting.

Since launching in September, Off the Grid at Treasure Island has quickly become one of the Bay Area’s most talked-about weekend gatherings. Each Saturday, Cityside Park transforms into a waterfront foodie festival with 15+ food trucks, curated cocktails, and live DJS, all set against panoramic tri-bridge views and the San Francisco skyline.

With local flavors, music, and wide-open lawns filling San Francisco’s newest waterfront park, Off the Grid at Treasure Island delivers an only-in-San-Francisco experience. This year’s festival also has a purpose: proceeds from every pumpkin sold will benefit GLIDE, the San Francisco nonprofit organization known for its work supporting families and communities in need. It’s a chance to bring home your hand-picked pumpkin while giving back to the city at the same time.

Food and drink round out the day. Silverwings Coffee will be on hand with coffee, matcha, and hot chocolate, while sweet treats from Johnny Doughnuts and nonalcoholic festive drinks keep the whole family fueled for fun. With the Bay Bridge rising behind the pumpkins, it’s a fall outing unlike any other in the city.
